Travel Arrangements
Ubon Ratchathani University is located in Amphur Warin Chamrab in Ubon Ratchathani Province. We are approximately 500 kilometers from Bangkok. There are a variety of ways to get here. We would suggest that you make your travel plans between Bangkok and Ubon early as 13 Apr 2009 - 15 Apr 2009 is Songkran or Thai New Year.
The Songkran Festival lasts for several days and is a traditional celebration that welcomes in the Thai New Year. It is one of the biggest and brightest celebrations in Thailand making it a great time to visit the country to participate in this fun and friendly event. On the first day it is traditional for Thais to clean their house in preparation for the year ahead. The following day is given over to the preparation of food and special meals to be consumed over the coming days. The third day is the start of the Thai New Year and is marked by religious ceremonies which usually take place early in the morning. Come the afternoon, it's time for the water fights which rage through the streets during which everybody, including tourists, are targets. The day is celebrated all over the country with various special events and attractions. The whole country gets involved in the celebrations with beauty pageants, feasts, parades, ceremonies and, of course, a huge water fight.

How to get here:
By Bus: A bus from Bangkok to Ubon takes 9-10.5 hours. Northeastern Bus Terminal (Mor Chit) Kamphaengpet Rd Tel. +66 2 936 3666, 537 8055. The new Mor Chit bus terminal has just been completely renovated to have a modern look. It is air-conditioned and has facilities such as convenience stores, fast food outlets, a food center and restaurants, left luggage area and telephones. Bus fares are about 300-600 baht.

By Train: There are 7 trains (ordinary, rapid, and express) from Bangkok to Ubon Ratchathani and 7 back every day. (Timetable. Please click on the link for Northeastern Line.)
